Cat Ba, the largest island in the Ha Long – Cat Ba archipelago, is a perfect blend of the majestic grandeur of limestone mountains and the gentle tranquility of the sea. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve, Cat Ba features not only stunning beaches but also the Cat Ba National Park with its rich tropical forest ecosystem.
Visitors to Cat Ba will have the opportunity to explore the peaceful Lan Ha Bay, where lush, green limestone islands rise above the emerald waters. Activities such as kayaking through small caves, swimming at pristine white-sand beaches, and savoring fresh seafood are experiences not to be missed.
Cat Ba offers an ideal setting for a retreat: lively enough in the central area but maintaining an untouched serenity and freshness in the bay regions. This destination promises a completely relaxing holiday, ensuring you fully recharge amidst nature
Cat Ba is located approximately 150km east of Hanoi, requiring only about 3 hours of travel time on a relatively short and straightforward route. To reach Cat Ba, you will travel by car to the ferry terminal, and then take a ferry or high-speed boat to the island, a short journey that takes just 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the vessel type.
With Hi Hi Tour, we cover all transportation costs for your convenience: this includes the round-trip bus transfer (Hanoi–Cat Ba), the high-speed boat ticket to the island, and the shuttle service from the ferry terminal directly to your homestay.

Cat Ba is truly unique, featuring the sea, forest, and mountains all on a single island. This provides for a wide array of diverse activities, and since the island is not overly large, you can easily experience them all.
Perhaps the most famous activity is cruising the bay (available as a day trip or an overnight experience), where you can admire the signature clear blue waters, enjoy swimming in the tranquil bay, kayak around the coves, and visit small hidden beaches.
Heading toward the Cat Ba National Park, you'll encounter 'cat-ear' limestone mountains, much like those found in Cat Ba. Here, you can explore the National Park itself or try several short trekking tours led by local guides.

The high tourism season in Cat Ba runs from late April through the end of October, with the peak period typically falling between mid-May and July. During this time, temperatures hover around 30°C to 35°C. The sun warms the beaches, but the sea air remains wonderfully cool and refreshing, making it perfect for swimming and water activities. A quick note: We advise guests to check the weather forecast frequently between July and September, as this period has the highest potential for tropical storms.
Conversely, from November through March (Winter/Spring), Cat Ba becomes remarkably quiet and tranquil. With cooler, brisk weather, this is the ideal time to fully embrace the island’s serenity, explore its pristine nature, and enjoy an escape from the busy summer crowds.
Chaos or peaceful?
In the central town, life revolves heavily around tourism, especially during the high season. You’ll find a bustling, energetic atmosphere with restaurants, hotels, and markets catering to visitors, giving the town a lively, commercial pulse.
However, once you venture beyond the main hub towards the fishing villages or the National Park, the pace shifts dramatically. Life here is much more relaxed and centered on the sea and nature. Locals primarily work in fishing, aquaculture (fish farming in the bay), or within the tourism sector. The daily rhythm is often influenced by the tides and the tourist calendar

The Cat Ba tour is designed for ease and relaxation, making it suitable for nearly everyone, from children over 2 years old to seniors up to 80.
Travel logistics involve just a few hours by comfortable car followed by a quick 15-minute ferry ride. Once on the island, all activities are gentle and pleasant, ensuring a relaxing pace for older adults and those seeking tranquility. Feel free to join us!
The journey from the ferry terminal to the island is mostly contained within the bay, meaning the waters are typically very calm. Since the travel time is short (ranging from 10 to 30 minutes depending on the vessel), seasickness is highly unlikely!
On rare, windy days when waves might be slightly stronger, you may want to bring motion sickness medication as a precaution, but generally, you should feel very comfortable.
For personal reasons, you can cancel your tour up to 7 days before departure and receive a full refund. After that, your deposit (if any) will be retained. In cases of force majeure such as natural disasters or severe weather, we will notify you, and you will receive a full refund. However, we cannot cover other expenses like airfare or hotel bookings.
Tipping is not required, but always appreciated for great service. You can tip directly to the service person and they will keep 100% percent of their tips. We always thankful for your appreciation.
